1. You have to be between the ages of 18 to 30 years old: 

The age range for becoming a professional event differs per agency. While some agencies keep it at 18 – 25 years old, others keep it at 21 – 30 years.

If you’re working with an agency that is specialized on working with corporate clients at events like conferences and exhibitions, this requires older hostesses and would likely hire hostesses that are 21 – 30 years old. While agencies who specialize in parties and social events like weddings, birthdays usually hire hostesses from 18 years old.  

Whichever niche you work with, if you’re between 18 – 30 years old, you are qualified to become an event hostess and there are a number of events staffing agencies and ushering agencies that you can start working with immediately.

2. You have to be at least 5’ 8ft tall:

A few agencies or specific jobs may raise their height requirement to 5’10ft and above, but most agencies generally maintain a benchmark of 5’8ft tall for their event hostesses.

So having a good height is one important checklist that qualifies you for succeeding an event hostess.

3. Your body size should be between 6 to 12:

As a standard practice, some agencies recruit only size 8 – 10 hostesses because of the uniform sizes they already have. However, majority of event staffing and ushering agencies would work with hostesses from size 6 to 12.

4. You have to be extremely good-looking: 

Hostessing is a profession for beautiful ladies. Your physical appearance is paramount and makes the first impression of the event to guests at every event.

Event staffing and ushering agencies look out for attractive ladies whose bodies are in good shape, their skin is well taken care of, and their faces are beautiful.

So, ensure that you have a fitness routine to keep your body in good shape, you have clear skin without scars or acne. You need to also be able to get your makeup nicely done yourself and always wear good hair. 

5. Being confident and well-spoken:  

This is great quality agencies look out to. It entails how you communicate and relate with guests at events.

In some cases, you may be required to make a public announcement to the event attendants. Your entire carriage and charisma as a hostess speak a lot about your professionalism. Your charisma is seen in the Way You walk, smile and speak to event attendants.

While working at events, you’re going to meet a lot of highly influential people and celebrities, so it’s important that you are not overwhelmed by the sight of them, or nervous when talking to them.

You should be able to speak confidently to people from any class and background in the right language using the right facial expressions and passing information in a clear and respectful manner. 

6. You need to be able to retain new information easily:

As an event hostess, most of the information you will be coming across at an event, you will be seeing them for the first time, and you would not be given the time to study them.

So, you need to be able to consume and retain information really fast and think on your feet. Understand details about the company or event you’re working with immediately. 

For example, memorizing the table names or numbers on the event day, so as to know where to direct guests to. Or if you’re working with an exhibitor at an exhibition, you need to be able to adapt and learn about their business on the spot after a short briefing to be able to communicate it to visitors. 

Whether you’re working at corporate or social events, there’s always new information to work with so as to be able to provide knowledgeable information to guests when you’re asked questions.
